Good planning is no substitute for good luck.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes..... However, the squirrels that spend more time searching for nuts in nut-rich environments find many, many more nuts.
The lazy squirrel blames everyone and everything else for their lack of nuts, while downplaying the thinking and hard work of the nut-having squirrels and giving undue credit to luck.

And in an arena with evenly distributed nuts, it’s probably more effective to get busy and be lucky than to sit down and plan first, because the other squirrels will beat you to them.
(I generally agree with you, I just feel like being argumentative. Also I can assure you luck beat out planning in the events that inspired this post)
